HEAVY OIL RESOURCES IN VENEZUELA
The earliest finding related to heavy oil resources goes back to late 1700s when explorers firstly found the outcrops of tar-filled sands in Canada. Then, settlers and explorers encountered surface leakage of heavy oil and tar in the late 1800s in California. Later, Venezuelan first heavy oil field, Mene Grande, was discovered in 1914. This was followed by the discovery of Duri field in Indonesia in 1941 [6]. Currently, there are many countries including Venezuela, Canada, USA and Indonesia that are exploiting heavy oil resources in the world.
